From selling her special Haitian iced tea at family tag sales as a child to founding a natural soap company, Monique Garraud Kofsky’s entrepreneurial spirit has helped her transform dreams into reality.
Monique founded Butter and Lye, her eco-friendly soap company, in 2019 after working as a biochemist for ten years. We had the pleasure of sitting down with her at the end of last season and are so excited to have her kick off season 2 of Tiny Green Chats!
If you have ever struggled to find products free of artificial fragrance and ingredients you can’t pronounce the name of, you aren’t alone. This struggle is what motivated Monique to start making soap and eventually found her own company. As a biochemist, Monique was able to understand what the soaps she used were actually made of, and she wasn’t satisfied.
At Butter and Lye, Monique focuses on sustainability and quality as she creates products, and she told us that before every decision she makes, she asks herself what the impact on the planet will be. This has led her to create innovative alternatives to everyday products such as a bamboo and coconut fiber cup and bottle brush and a 100% plastic-free shampoo bar.
Monique’s dedication to creating eco-friendly, high-quality soaps, shampoo, and accessories gives us hope for a greener future, and we can’t wait for you to hear more of her story and learn more about Butter and Lye on this week’s episode!
Monique’s episode will be dropping Thursday, March 31st at noon!
